How to make an animated infographic video

In an animated infographic video, one picture explains itself. Labels appear one at a time, each pointing at a part of the image, while a voice reads them out. You can make one in Reelitly in four steps, with no timeline and no keyframes. Below is each step, plus the choices that make the finished video easier to follow.

Before you start: plan the labels

The labels are the script. Reelitly's narration reads the video's title and summary, then each label in list order, so the order of your labels is the order of the story.

  • Pick one subject per video. "The parts of a flower" works. "Plants" does not.
  • Write down the parts you want named, in the order a viewer should meet them.
  • Keep each label short. It is read aloud, so a phrase beats a paragraph.

Step 1: Choose a template, length and shape, then generate the image

The first studio step, Setup & Image, sets three things:

  • Template. Pointer Reveal draws an arrow from each label to its spot on the image, which suits diagrams, anatomy and technical subjects. Grid Reveal spotlights one cell of a grid at a time, which suits lists and comparisons. The templates page shows both in more detail.
  • Length. 15, 30 or 45 seconds, or 1 minute.
  • Aspect ratio. 9:16 vertical for Reels, Shorts and TikTok, 16:9 horizontal for YouTube and course platforms, or 1:1 square.

Then describe the topic. You can set a visual style (Flat Vector, Modern Educational, Scientific Diagram or Hand-drawn Sketch), the audience, the level of detail, and a list of things the image must include. Putting your planned parts in the must-include field ("stamen, petal, sepal, stem") gives the AI the best chance of drawing all of them.

If the picture is close but not right, type an edit instruction such as "make the background plain white", or regenerate it.

Step 2: Check the labels

Vision AI scans the image and proposes a label for each part it finds, with a position on the canvas. Check them before you move on:

  • Rewrite any label so it says what you want narrated.
  • Drag a label, or the point its arrow lands on, until it sits in the right place.
  • Add a label the AI missed, or delete one you don't need.
  • Reorder the list so the parts appear in the order you planned.

You can also change font size and colours, for all labels or for one.

Step 3: Add the narration

Pick a voice from the list. Each one has a sample you can play first. Reelitly turns the label text into speech and times each label to appear as it is read, with the pauses spread to fit the length you chose.

If you go back and change the image or the labels after this, the narration has to be generated again, so finish Step 2 first.

Step 4: Render and download

Render the video and download an HD MP4: 1080x1920 vertical, 1920x1080 horizontal or 1080x1080 square, depending on the shape you picked in Step 1. The file is yours to upload anywhere, including for commercial use under the Terms of Service.

What it costs

A new account gets 50 free credits, no card needed. A project's first image, voiceover and render come in a 35-credit bundle, so your first video is covered. After that, a new image costs 20 credits, an image edit 15, a new voiceover 5 and a re-render 10.

Questions

How long does an animated infographic video take to make?

It depends mostly on how much you change. The AI drafts the image, the labels and the narration, so your time goes into checking them, and there is no timeline to edit.

Can I change the order labels appear in?

Yes. Reorder the labels in the Labels step. The narration reads them in list order, and each label appears as it is read.

What size is the exported video?

An HD MP4: 1080x1920 vertical, 1920x1080 horizontal or 1080x1080 square.

Which template should I use?

Pointer Reveal for one picture with parts to name, such as a diagram or anatomy. Grid Reveal for a set of separate items, such as a list or a comparison.

Do I need design or video editing skills?

No. The studio walks you through the four steps, and the AI drafts the image, the labels and the narration for you to check.
